HIST 369

I HAVE RETIRED, SO I NO LONGER TEACH UNDERGRADUATE COURSES AT UBC.  THIS INFORMATION IS MAINTAINED HERE FOR ARCHIVAL PURPOSES.

Welcome to the course website for History 369 (Europe 1900-1950). This course offers a survey of European history from the beginning of the twentieth century to the aftermath of the Second World War. The brief 50-year period encompassed by this course begins with Europe as the seat of numerous global empires and then examines the First World War, the growing tension between democracy and collectivist ideologies during the interwar era, the Second World War, and the beginnings of the unexpected postwar recovery. The course will pay close attention to the variety of source materials which historians use to understand this turbulent epoch of European history.
